Common questions about Strava plans

Is the free version enough?

For most people, yes. Recording your walks, runs and rides, seeing the map afterwards and following friends all cost nothing. You only need to pay if you want the app to plan routes for you or to show detailed charts of your fitness over time.

Is it cheaper to pay yearly?

Much cheaper. $79.99 for a year works out at $6.67 a month, against $11.99 paying month by month – a saving of about $64 a year. The catch is paying the whole amount at once.

Can my family share one subscription?

Yes. The Family Plan is $139.99 a year and covers up to four people, each with their own account. From two people onwards it is cheaper than buying separate subscriptions.

Do I need a special watch?

No. Strava works using your phone alone. It also connects to a Garmin, Apple Watch, Fitbit or similar if you already have one.

Where this information comes from

Strava's pricing page notes it was 'Updated: July 1, 2025' and that Strava is moving to consistent subscription pricing by country, so US prices should be stable. Strava also sells a bundle, 'Strava + Runna', at $149.99 a year plus tax, which adds the Runna running-training app - listed here in notes only because it is a bundle rather than a Strava plan. A yearly-only student rate of $39.99 and 25% discounts for teachers, military and medical professionals are officially advertised. Prices bought inside the iPhone app can be higher than on strava.com.
